Team News

Posh have been busier than ever in the summer transfer window, bringing in fifteen players and moving on sixteen. The starting XI will be almost completely unrecognisable compared to the side that played against Portsmouth on the final day of last season. The only players from last season in with a chance of playing are goalkeeper Connor O’Malley, defender Ryan Tafazolli and midfielders George Cooper and Joe Ward.

Midfielder Adam King – loaned in from Swansea City – is the only player set to be missing through injury, as the youngster struggles with a hamstring problem.

Bristol Rovers have made six signings and five sales – including striker Ellis Harrison, who has joined ex-Posh winger Gwion Edwards at Ipswich Town. All six players will be in contention for the starting eleven on Saturday, as Rovers look to get their first win at the ABAX Stadium for the first time since February 2007.

What to expect

Both sides will be coming out desperate to start the League One season off well. Steve Evans will set up his new men in a 4-4-2 system, and will be expected to keep the ball away from Rovers, who are likely to soak up the pressure and try hard keep the ball when they have it – like most away teams do.

Posh will be keen to prove their squad overhaul has been worthwhile, and will be hungry to come out the blocks fast. Rovers’ new men will also be keen to impress – as will former Posh striker Tom Nichols. So expect an interesting curtain raiser at the ABAX Stadium tomorrow.
