West Brom reject big bid for star striker

As is it goes for any side fresh off the back relegation, departures are a thing to expect, especially when the clubs key players are involved.

With West Brom set to kick off their Championship season on Saturday against Bolton, they first face a tough task of keeping Jay Rodriguez at the club, amid strong interest from his old club Burnley.

The Telegraph has reported that the Clarets have had a £16m bid rejected for Rodriguez. The bid comes off the back of previous attempts by the Europa League side to sign the striker, having already had a £25m rejected for JR and Craig Dawson combined, earlier in the window.

The offer for the former England man has once again fallen short of the Baggies estimations and remain keen to keep hold of last season’s top goalscorer, having already seen the likes of Ben Foster, Jonny Evans depart the club this summer.

Rodriguez could join fellow attacker Salomon Rondon out the exit door at the Hawthorns, with the Venezuelan still in talks to join Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.

For Burnley, they seem to be accustomed to rejection in this window, yet to sign a player this term, the club will hope their efforts to sign Swansea’s Sam Clucas will move smoother than their previous dealings.

Burnley have one of the biggest games in the clubs history tonight, a second leg qualification tie against Scottish side Aberdeen for a place in the Europa League, the first leg ending in a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.
