Leeds United set for imminent decision in chase for Premier League centre-back

Leeds United are set for a decision ‘very shortly’ in their pursuit of Everton centre-back Matty Pennington, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

Everton defender Matty Pennington could be set for a return to Leeds United on loan for the 2018/19 Championship season, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon states that Wigan Athletic are also in the race for Pennington, and some Leeds fans are hoping that they actually beat the Whites in the race for the 23-year-old, with fans reacting hilariously to links with the defender.

The 23-year-old has featured consistently in Everton’s pre-season under Marco Silva, but looks set to be sent out on loan for another season, despite signing a new deal in May. Wigan Athletic have also been credited with interest in the defender, and have supposedly enquired about bringing him in on a short term deal.

The Liverpdool Echo reported on the deal a couple of days ago, stating that the defender was set to spend another season on loan in the Championship with first team opportunities likely to be scarce in the Premier League.

Leeds have ‘long-standing interest’ in the defender and seem keen to bring back Pennington for another campaign.

Despite Leeds United fans dismay at the reports, it seems that Marcelo Bielsa is keen to bring back Pennington to Elland Road. He certainly didn’t make a good impression in his first spell at Leeds, but he and Leeds fans will be hoping he performs better if he returns for another campaign.
