Coventry City v Colchester Utd Betting Preview

Coventry have taken points from every head-to-head with Colchester United since they first met in 2006 whilst playing in the Championship. Now in League One, The U’s head to Coventry’s ‘home’ ground in Northampton to try and put an end to this record.

The Sky Blue’s head 34 miles out of Coventry to their new ‘home’ ground to make a dent in their 10pt deduction, but following our form guide (see here), they’re equally matched on 8pts. Despite losing the first game of the season, Coventry have picked themselves up, being undefeated in four. Whilst this matches the form of Colchester, Coventry have racked up 9 goals in home-games alone this season, whilst conceding 8. Playing away, Colchester have only scored 2 goals, and are “struggling with injuries at the moment”, Joe Dunne told BBC Essex.

It’s important for the Sky Blue’s to overcome their 10pt penalty, and are clearly on a mission to do so. Coming into this game unbeaten in 4, Coventry are rightful favorites to win at 5/6 (BetVictor). With Colchester playing mid-week and being knocked out of the FL Trophy, they are in a weak position with injuries on-top, which should make them easy-pickings for an in-form home team.

If this is turns out as easy as it seems, we could be in for another goals-galore afternoon. Coventry’s matches have seen 9 goals for, and 8 goals conceded in home games this season, and we can see good reason that the upcoming match should be no different. The over 2.5 goals bet is priced up at 5/6 (BetVictor). Furthermore, this would have been landed in Colchester’s last game.

It’s also worth considering that their home games so far have seen an average of 8.5 goals. Over 5.5 goals is 11/1 (Betfair) whilst another goal is priced up at 25/1. Unlikely, but worth considering for small stakes if their current form is anything to go by.

Callum Wilson has scored twice in both home games this season, netting 6 times for the team in total. He is 13/2 (Bet365) to score another brace, whilst only 13/10 (BetVictor) to deliver a goal at anytime.
