News broke yesterday that Sampdoria were keen on Vieira and before we knew it he was landing in Genoa and heading to the club for talks. Less than 24 hours later it is a done deal without the announcement and he’s back in England to paly for his new club in two pre-season matches. Vieira has penned a long-term deal and in all honesty, it’s a great move for the player.

The news has sparked a mixed reaction in all honesty. Many are disappointed to see such a talented young player leave the club, including myself and others aren’t too phased by the deal. Personally I’m a huge fan of Vieira but I do understand why he’s left the club. Sampdoria are a big club, a club who are well established and are in one of the best leagues in the world, in terms of development it’s a great move.

Vieira certainly hasn’t been forced out, that much is obvious. He’s moved quickly and it seems to be down to one thing, he isn’t in the plans of Marcelo Bielsa. Once that decision has been made by Marcelo Bielsa it’s down to Vieira. He didn’t seem to suit the style of play and as soon as a concrete offer comes in the player needs to make up his mind, nobody came blame Vieira for leaving, the club accepting a bid is open to interpretation.

Vieira leaves Leeds after two full seasons in the first-team, although he made his debut on the final day of the season under Steve Evans at Preston. A big tackler and one of the hardest workers his passion and potential were there for all to see. Vieira leaves Leeds with the best wishes of the vast majority, we’ll be keeping an eye on him.
