Doncaster Rovers confirm they are in talks with former Leeds United midfielder and ex-Peterborough United forward

Doncaster Rovers head coach Grant McCann has confirmed to the Sheffield Star that they are in talks to sign trialists Romario Vieira and Paul Taylor.

During the summer, Doncaster have been looking at a lot of players as they prepare for the coming season in Sky Bet League One. They decided to take a closer look at both Vieira and Taylor, taking both players on trial. Vieira, who is the twin brother of Sampdoria-linked Ronaldo, signed for Leeds’ academy in 2016 but unlike his brother, he was unable to break through and was released this summer. Taylor is a veteran of the EFL having played for the likes of Peterborough United, Ipswich Town and Rotherham United. He was most recently at Bradford City until he was released this summer.

Both players went on trial with Doncaster looking for a contract and it seems like it has worked. McCann has confirmed to the press that they are currently in contract talks with both players and that they are hoping to sign both before the start of the season.

He said: “We’ll know more in the next couple of days regarding the signings,”

“We need to sit down with the representatives of the two that we are bringing in and see where we go from there.”

“We’re always looking.”

“They will come in if they can improve us.”

“In Romario’s case, he’s more of a development.”

“I think he has been cast aside because of his brother at Leeds. I don’t mean that in a bad way to Leeds.”

“We see huge potential in him if he is to be the one that is coming in.”

“He’s a work in progress for us really.”

“That is if we can agree personal terms.”

“There’s no hiding behind the fact he has been with us, he’s in with the group.”

“I feel as if there is a lot of development in him.”

“Garry Monk speaks highly of him. Everyone at Leeds speaks highly of him, even though he didn’t have a lot of opportunities there.”

“He’s a project for us. He’s someone who won’t walk into our first team right away, but he might surprise as few.”
