Canos, Middlesbrough keeping eye on Brentford playmaker

Middlesbrough keeping eye on Brentford playmaker

Middlesbrough are keeping track of Brentford’s Sergi Canos according to a report from Teamtalk.

This weekend, Middlesbrough were reported to be in the race for QPR’s Luke Freeman. But while they may want to sign him, it could be a tough deal to complete. Sky Bet Championship rivals Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion are also in the race to sign him and QPR head coach Steve McClaren said today that despite their Financial Fair Play fine they won’t be forced to sell any of their players. That means Middlesbrough may have to look elsewhere to find an attacking midfielder.

And they are already eyeing up a potential alternate should they not be able to sign Freeman. Canos has been a top player for Brentford since signing for them last summer from Norwich City, following up his successful loan move to West London just a few years before. And much like last time, his form has been noticed with Middlesbrough keeping a keen eye on him should their move for Freeman not work out.

Even if Middlesbrough do instead decide to go for Canos, that doesn’t mean Brentford are going to sell. The Bees have already lost one of their key players this summer when they decided to sell John Egan to Sheffield United. It is going to be a tough task to replace him and Brentford may not want to sell another one of their best players when they’ve already done that once this season. But if Middlesbrough put a good bid in for him, the Bees may have to sell once again.
