Leeds United to sell starlet Vieira – travelling for medical – deal closed

Amidst the breaking clouds and disappearing dullness of a once lethargic transfer window at Elland Road comes bright rays of hope in player arrivals such as Barry Douglas, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison. However further gloom is predicted.

Despite the arrival of the aforementioned trio helping to brighten Leeds United the outlook of Leeds United fans with the season less than a week away, there comes the bitter news that the Whites will kick off their season minus one of their shining lights – youngster Ronaldo Vieira according to Sky Sports.

It was a rumour dismissed when it was first published in an Italian language source, but it was a rumour that gained traction and credence earlier today when Sky Sports Italy picked up the news and ran with it that Serie A side Sampdoria were wanting youngster Vieira for the upcoming season:

What advanced the narrative somewhat was the mention of a fee, €7 million/£6.2 million. The valuation placed on Ronaldo Vieira is one thing, the fact that it looked like he was readying for leaving Leeds United another altogether.

News coming through from Sky Sports Transfer Centre (14:27) advances things a step further, a step closer to the 20-year-old’s potential exit from Leeds United. Sky Sports say that he is primed to leave the club and “will travel to Genoa tonight ahead of his 7m euro move to Sampdoria.”

Sky Sport Italy have themselves expanded further on news from earlier in a piece for their website. They say that the arrival of youngster Vieira is a “surprise” and go on to declare that the two sides have “already closed negotiations” and that the Leeds United youngster is set to undergo “medical consultations set for Tuesday.”

The reliable Phil Hay, writing for the Yorkshire Post doesn’t go quite down these tracks of Italian certainty. He does admit that the Italian giants have “tabled a multi-million pound bid” for the powerful youngster and that they remain “confident of talking Leeds into a sale.”
