Could Leeds United move for this ex-Manchester City centre-back?

It’s no real secret that Leeds United are in desperate need for a centre-back and with the club leaving the number five jersey vacant ahead of this season, it suggests the Whites could be looking to fill it in the coming days.

One defender who is currently a free agent and would be an excellent addition for Leeds United would be ex-Manchester City centre-half Nedem Onuoha.

Onuoha made 95 appearances for Manchester City, and is a towering presence at the back standing up at 6ft 2in. The defender is assured and calm on the ball, and would slot comfortably into a side managed by Marcelo Bielsa, who encourages his defenders and team to play with freedom, rather than trepidation at the back.

The central defender has most recently been with QPR in the Championship and made 207 appearances for the London side, in both the Premier League and the Championship.

Given the fact that Onuoha has performed in both the Premier League, and the Championship, it suggests that he could quite comfortably slot into Leeds United’s defence alongside Pontus Jansson, to sure up what is becoming one of the strongest defences in the division.

Onuoha is 32-years-old, which means he’s experienced and also can be a leading presence in Leeds United’s defence, should the West Yorkshire side make a move for him.

Given the fact that Leeds United have spent a relatively hefty amount of money in recent days with a £3.5m deal for Barry Douglas and the club look set to sign Patrick Bamford for £7m from Middlesbrough, a cheap recruit would be a sensible option for Leeds United and with Onuoha’s experience and the fact that he’s a free agent, he’d be the perfect fit for Leeds United.
