Could Leeds United or Sheffield Wednesday make a shock move to sign Premier League winning centre-back?

Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are two clubs who look noticeably short at centre-half, with Wednesday needing to replace Glenn Loovens who moved to Sunderland in this transfer window, and Leeds United fans wanting someone new to sit alongside Pontus Jansson in the Whites defence this upcoming season.

With both clubs seemingly pre-occupied on other positions, a new centre-half seems to have been put on the back foot, with Leeds United looking to complicate deals for Barry Douglas and Matej Vydra, and Wednesday focusing on a new right-back to replace Jack Hunt, who left to Bristol City earlier in the window.

Leicester City’s title winning defender, Robert Huth is currently a free agent, and with the defender expected to drop into the Championship this season, a move to Elland Road or Hillsborough would be a clever one, for the German centre-back.

Huth made his name at Stoke City, spending a long period as the rock of the Potters defence in the Premier League, ensuring the club became a formidable, well-established Premier League side, built on strong formations at the back.

The towering defender then earned a move to the King Power Stadium to join up with Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City, and his partnership with Wes Morgan in central-defence became one of the key reasons as to why the Foxes were able to push forward to their first ever Premier League title, as the defender gave a creative license to the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez in attack, as he and Wes Morgan ensured their defence remained strong and well-organised.

With Huth being a free agent, clubs such as Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and his former employers Stoke City have been linked with a move for the centre-half, but with Leeds and Wednesday both needing a new man at the back, the towering defender would be a sensible option for either club, to help them cement a play-off push during the upcoming campaign.
