Middlesbrough remain interested in Derby-bound Ipswich striker Martyn Waghorn

Middlesbrough still remain interested in Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn, according to reports in The Evening Gazette.

With Derby County’s recent capture of Jack Marriott from Peterborough, manager Frank Lampard is actively looking to bring in a strike partner for the 23-year old. Waghorn has been touted by Derby this transfer window, but the striker remains an Ipswich player. Middlesbrough were also linked to the forward, and are reportedly still keen despite Derby’s interest.

The Tractor Boys are holding out for a bid in the region of £8 million to £10 million, and it seems likely that Derby would be willing to meet their valuation. However, reports yesterday from The East Anglian Daily Times suggest that no bid has been made for the striker as yet, and are waiting for a club to make an approach.

Waghorn had the most involvement in goals of any player last season in the Championship. The striker scored 16 goals and notched 11 assists domestically, and it is easy to see why he is a wanted man.

Middlesbrough forwards Britt Assombalonga and Patrick Bamford have both been linked with a move away from the club, with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United expressing an interest in the pair. Boro may be actively looking into the transfer market to replace either striker if one does depart, with Waghorn posing an ideal replacement.

The forward only signed for Ipswich Town at the start of last season from Rangers for £250,000, and the Scottish side are reported to have a 10% sell on clause within Waghorn’s contract.
