Swansea’s Andre Ayew agrees loan deal with Fenerbahce

Swansea City forward Andre Ayew has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a season long loan the club has confirmed via their official website.

Andre Ayew has been linked with the Turkish giants since the opening of the transfer window, and the Swansea man always look destined the leave the club this summer.

The 28-year old was also recently subject to interest from Celtic, with manager Brendan Rodgers wanting to bring the Ghanaian to the club. The Scottish side had planned to hijack the move, but Ayew preferred a move to Turkey over Scotland.

The loan-deal also has the possibility to turn permanent, with Fenerbahce having first refusal, and an option to purchase Ayew after the loan-deal is complete. It has not been reported how much the Turkish side will have to pay at the end of the season yet however.

Ayew only joined Swansea in January 2018 from West Ham United, but underperformed for the Swans as he failed to find the net in 12 games at The Liberty Stadium. The initial fee was £20.5 million, and they will be looking to recuperate the majority of that transfer amount if the forward makes the move to Fenerbahce permanent.

Swans boss Graham Potter has since commented on the deal. He said, “I understand the circumstances of the move – it’s part of the restructure of us going forward.

“From my perspective he has been brilliant. He has applied himself in training, supported what we are trying to do and been very professional.

“He has been a joy to work with and we wish him the best.”
