Leeds fee for Wolves’ Barry Douglas said to be £5 million

Leeds United seem to be heading towards their first permanent signing of the summer. Wolverhampton Wanderers wing-back and Scottish international Barry Douglas is on the cards, with a fee of £5 million the sum in the reports.

28-year-old Barry Douglas is a left-footed wing-back, full-back or even a winger and waded in with twelve assists and five goals during the Wolves romp to the title last season. Douglas is a Scottish international and a player who moved abroad in order to develop rather than stay at home. Whilst at Dundee United he was linked with Leeds, years ago as well as Celtic and Rangers before making the switch outside of the U.K.

In terms of style he isn’t quick, but not slow, extremely talented with his left-foot and he has bags of energy, something that was crucial to the Wolves system last term. He and Matt Docherty on the other side could be described as steady players, wing-backs will never get the praise they deserve but the fact is that they were the two best players in their positions last season.

Leeds have struggled to get any deals done this summer and the pressure has been growing. Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker have arrived from Chelsea on loan but that’s it. Failed bids for Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra have been the most high-profile moves and then losing out to Derby in the race for Florian Jozefzoon from Brentford. Leeds currently have Tom Pearce and Laurens De Bock competing for the left-back role, as well as Stuart Dallas. Leeds loaned Cameron Borthwick-Jackson from Manchester United last season but it didn’t work out at all.
