Leeds United to launch move for Wolves’ Barry Douglas

With Wolves set to sign Atletico Madrid’s Jonny Castro, Nuno Espirito Santo is set to let Scotsman Barry Douglas leave. Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United are looking to pounce to take Douglas to Elland Road.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United are set to launch a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers full back Barry Douglas. Douglas was a shining light in Nuno’s side that won the Championship title last season, scoring five and assisting fourteen.

It is believed that verbal negotiations have taken place, with a deal being completed possibly as soon as this week.

Wolves have been looking at bringing in a new wing-back this summer, being linked with Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko. Spaniard Jonny Castro is expected to come through the door imminently, paving the way for Douglas to leave in search of first team football.

Douglas would fit in perfectly in Bielsa’s preferred 3-3-3-1 system, playing at left wing-back, bombing forward to join the attack. The 28-year-old has a lethal left foot, providing a significant threat from deal ball situations.

Leeds are keen to strengthen the left-back position, and have been linked with moves for left backs all summer, but none have materialised into anything beyond links.

He is entering the final year of his contract at Molineux, so the Whites shouldn’t have to pay an extortionate fee for the full-back. Given Douglas’ experience in the Championship, there aren’t many better options for Leeds United. Douglas is a perfect tactical fit for Bielsa’s side, and had an excellent campaign last season.
