Middlesbrough deal for Everton midfielder could now no longer be an option

Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic is relishing his chance in the first-team picture in pre-season under new manager Marco Silva, and a move back to Middlesbrough could now be out of the question.

Having spent time out on loan last season at Middlesbrough in the second half of the season, it was reported that Boro boss Tony Pulis was keen to bring the Bosnian back to the Riverside. However, with new management at Goodison Park, Besic has been given a chance in pre-season.

In a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, new Toffees boss Marco Silva admitted that midfielder Muhamed Besic was playing for his future at the club, and he has been a mainstay in his pre-season starting elevens so far.

In analysis in the Liverpool Echo, writer Adam Jones claims Besic was ‘head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch’ in Everton’s most recent pre-season game against Lille. If the midfielder is to put in Man of the Match performances consistently from now until their season gets underway against Wolves in two weeks time, it is likely Besic will remain an Everton player.

The loan window is open until the end of August however, and if Middlesbrough cannot secure a permanent deal for Besic, they may look to secure a loan deal instead.

He played 15 times for Middlesbrough in the 2017/18 campaign, scoring one goal. His performances within the Boro side helped them to achieve a fifth placed finish and compete in the Championship Play Off semi finals, where they were defeated by Aston Villa across two legs.
