Forget George Evans: Three other midfielders who Sunderland should sign

With George Evans’ proposed move from Reading to Sunderland falling through according to Football.London, here are three other midfielders who the Black Cats should target-

Jon Nolan, Shrewsbury Town- Sunderland should turn their attentions to the 26-year-old. Jon Nolan joined Shrewsbury last summer from Chesterfield and became a huge player for them in League One last season. He really found his feet under Paul Hurst, who is now manager of Ipswich Town, for the Shrews and is one of the best midfielders in the third tier now. He would be ideal for Sunderland as he is proven at this level.

Josh Morris, Scunthorpe United- He has been a consistent performer for Scunthorpe in League One over the past two years. The 26-year-old has an eye for goal and has managed an impressive 31 goals for the Iron since signing for them in 2016. Prior to moving to Scunthorpe, Morris had previously been at Blackburn Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Bradford City. Morris would be a great signing for Sunderland as he would give their new manager, Jack Ross, more depth and options in midfield.

Callum Guy, Derby County- The highly-rated central midfielder could leave Championship side Derby County on loan again next season for more first-team experience and he would be ideal for Sunderland. The 21-year-old impressed in the last campaign on loan at Bradford City in League One and would add some more energy into Sunderland’s midfield. Guy started his career with the Rams after joining their youth set-up at the age of 9.
