Charlton Athletic wanted new Hull City signing George Long

Charlton Athletic wanted to sign George Long from Sheffield United, according to LondonNewsOnline.

The 24-year-old decided to join fellow Championship side Hull City and re-unite with his former Sheffield United boss Nigel Adkins.

League One side Charlton Athletic are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper and have also missed on signing Ben Amos, who they had on loan from Bolton Wanderers last season. The former Manchester United shot stopper has joined Millwall on a season-long loan.

The Addicks then set their sights on George Long but will have to look again now. Long spent last season at AFC Wimbledon and impressed for them in the third tier.

His first-team chances would have been guaranteed at Charlton but he is obviously up for the challenge of breaking into Hull City’s starting eleven in the Championship. He will be looking to fight David Marshall for the number one spot at the KCOM Stadium and is not just going there to be his back-up.

George Long started his career at Sheffield United and went onto play over 100 games for this home-town club. He also enjoyed loan stints at Oxford United, Scottish side Motherwell and Wimbledon during his time at Bramall Lane.

Long is now looking forward to the next chapter of his career at Hull City and is hoping to impress again under Nigel Adkins. He is likely to make his first start for the Tigers in their pre-season friendly against Premier League side Newcastle United at the KCOM Stadium this evening.
