Grimsby Town have announced the signing of Charles Vernam from Derby County on a permanent basis after impressing on loan in the second half of last season.
Charles Vernam joins Grimsby Town on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Vernam spent 6 months on loan with The Mariners last season, making 9 appeatances before getting injured. Derby County have let the youngster go after signing him as a 16 year-old from Scunthorpe.
The youngster made a good impression on manager Michael Jolley, and expressed his joy at reuniting with Jolley.
Vernam told the club website:
“Ever since I got injured, he was in touch with me and the day after I left the club, he was straight on the phone saying that if there was a possibility, he would like to bring me back. When you have got somebody who believes in you like that and wants you to be part of something, it’s very reassuring and I almost wanted to repay that faith he showed in me to come back and try help him as much as he has helped me.”
Vernam is keen to make a good impression on the Grimsby faithful, and wants to repay the faith the club and supporters have shown after his brief spell with the club.
The 21 year-old announced his return on Twitter, and didn’t hide his joy:
