Sheffield United turn attentions to Derby County striker David Nugent

Sheffield United are targeting Derby County striker David Nugent, as per a report by the Yorkshire Post.

The Blades have been keen on a move for Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn but could be priced out of a move for him. Therefore, they may now turn their attentions to the experienced David Nugent.

The 33-year-old, who is a once capped England international, has got bags of experience at Championship level and is proven at this level. His starting chances at Derby County may be limited next season so Sheffield United could offer him some first-team football.

Nugent joined the Rams in January 2017 for around £2.5 million from Middlesbrough. He has managed 10 goals for them since his move to Pride Park.

The Huyton-born striker played for Liverpool as a youngster before joining Bury in 2002. He broke into their first-team aged 16 and was snapped up by Preston North End in 2005. He scored a combined 37 goals in three seasons for the Lilywhites and this earned a move to the Premier League with Portsmouth in 2007.

Nugent has since had spells at Burnley, Leicester City, Middlesbrough and now Derby County but could be on his way this summer with Sheffield United keen. He has played for some big clubs in his career and knows what it takes to get promoted.

The Blades have made some shrewd signings this summer in Dean Henderson from Manchester United and John Egan from Brentford and their squad is shaping up nicely. David Nugent would be a good signing for them as he would offer them another striking option.
