Blackburn Rovers target transfer listed Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong

Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong has been made available for transfer, and Blackburn Rovers are looking to pounce, according to reports.

The Sun have reported that Newcastle United have told young striker Adam Armstrong he is free to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer. Blackburn Rovers have been linked with a move with Armstrong after a successful loan spell in the second half of last season.

It is thought that Newcastle would accept a bid in the region of £3m for the striker. The Magpies are apparently eager to cash in on Armstrong, however, Rovers would prefer to bring Armstrong in on loan, given his wages and the fee being demanded by Newcastle.

Blackburn have been beaten in the chase for Bristol Rovers striker Ellis Harrison. Harrison is set to move to Ipswich Town for £750,000 after a successful campaign.

The England youth international has been the subject of interest of several Championship clubs.

Mowbray is keen to bring in another striker as soon as possible. With little under two weeks left until the start of season, Mowbray wants to assemble his squad as fast as possible as they prepare for the Championship season.

Mowbray and Armstrong have had a great relationship over the years. Mowbray first signed Armstrong at Coventry City in 2015, and scored 20 goals in 40 appearances. The 21 year-old reunited with Mowbray in January 2018 after a mediocre loan spell with Bolton in the first half of the season, scoring 9 in 21.

Armstrong has been touted as an English prospect since his emergence into the Newcastle first team squad in 2014. However, the youngster has found first team chances hard to come by. Armstrong has made only 17 appearances for the Newcastle first team, with only one of those being a start.

A reunion with Mowbray is exactly what the youngster needs. At only 21, Armstrong needs consistent management and first team football to help develop his growth. A return to Ewood Park would be ideal for the striker, where he can rejoin a club where he feels at home and is appreciated by the Blackburn faithful.
