Rotherham United want deal for Premier League midfielder

Rotherham United are keen on re-signing Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Richie Towell, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan with the Millers in League One and impressed for them. Towell played 45 games in all competitions and scored 6 goals.

Rotherham United will be playing in the Championship next season after their Play-Off glory in the last campaign. Their manager, Paul Warne, is hoping to keep them in the second tier and is targeting a move for Towell to return to the Yorkshire side.

It appears that Towell does not have a future at Brighton in the Premier League and will be allowed to leave them again this summer.

The Seagulls swooped to sign him in November 2015 from Dundalk but he has struggled to break into their first-team since moving to England. He has played only eight times for Brighton.

Towell, who is a former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, started his career at Crumlin United before being snapped up by Celtic in 2007. He spent the 2010/11 season on loan at Hibernian before leaving Celtic to join Dundalk.

He was prolific for Dundalk and scored 51 goals for them in 118 which helped them win the League of Ireland Premier Division twice. This earned him a move to Brighton but it seems his future lies away from the top flight side.

Richie Towell found his feet at Rotherham United last season and Paul Warne got the best out of him. A return to the Millers would be a sensible move for the Irish midfielder.
