Phil Brown on where Swindon Town need to improve

Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, Swindon Town manager Phil Brown acknowledges that he is still looking to add at least another forward, as well as some centre backs before the transfer window closes. Brown was speaking following the 2-0 home pre-season friendly defeat to Portsmouth at the weekend.

Brown has already added a handful of new faces to the Swindon squad this summer. Jermaine McGlashan, Luke McCormick, Martin Smith, Jak McCourt and Toumani Diagouraga will all be looking to make an impact this summer. However, the former Southend United manager wants a few more at least before he is totally happy with where they are at.

Injuries to strikers Kaiyne Woolery and Marc Richards has left them a little light up front, according to Brown, and ideally he wants another striker through the building soon, in addition to a defender,

“We still need to improve on the front-line in terms of goals, and we need to massively improve on the back-line in terms of either a couple of centre backs or a full-back that can play either side.”

Swindon have failed to score in their last three friendly games, which includes a behind-closed-doors clash with Portuguese giants Benfica. Whilst Brown is happy with what he already has, he wants the right balance,

“We’ve got a good group, I don’t want to spoil it by bringing in two or three bad ones.

“We’re piecing the jigsaw together, slowly but surely, and if you look at the four departments – goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack – I believe we’re improved two of those departments.”
