Ipswich beat Blackburn to sign £750,000 League One hotshot

The East Anglian Daily Times reports that Ipswich Town are to sign Bristol Rovers striker Ellis Harrison for £750,000. The Sky Bet Championship club look to have beaten their divisional rivals Blackburn Rovers to the signing of the 24-year-old.

A fee has been agreed between the two clubs, and Harrison is set to travel to Ipswich to undergo a medical ahead of a likely move to Portman Road. Paul Hurst has specifically targeted the EFL lower leagues to boost his squad ahead of the new season, and the Welshman looks set to be his latest Tractor Boys recruit.

Whilst there is still some way to be done to get this deal across the line, it could very well be concluded today. News of this will be of no surprise to Bristol Rovers supporters, with manager Darrell Clarke revealing over the weekend that there were set to lose one of their key players.

Adding another striker has been a priority for Hurst this summer, especially after David McGoldrick departed. Also, the future of Martyn Waghorn continues to be a major talking point, with various clubs linked with the player. Sheffield United is one club that has definitely produced a bid.

It was last season’s exploits which has led to interest growing in former Hartlepool United loanee Harrison. He netted 14 goals in all competitions, and his reputation has continued to grow. He’ll now aim to win a spot in the Ipswich starting eleven, and there are two potential pre-season friendlies, against MK Dons and West Ham United, where he’ll aim to do so.
