Norwich, Farke in no rush to pen Norwich City contract extension

Farke in no rush to pen Norwich City contract extension

Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke tells the Pink Un that he’s not in any rush to sign a new contract, despite only having a year remaining on his current deal. Farke was appointed to the job at Carrow Road in May 2017.

Farke therefore is at the midpoint of his two-year contract, but he insists all of his current focus is on the upcoming Sky Bet Championship campaign. The German oversaw a frustrated campaign in his first season in charge and will be targeting a play-off spot for Norwich at the very least this time around.

Whilst he accepts that when a player has only a year remaining on his deal, then discussions generally take place, but in this instance, he is not worried,

“I know in this game when it comes down to a player with 12 months left to run on the contract there can be a lot of discussions and speculation.

“Ivo (Pinto) will be out of contract, Timm Klose will be out of contract in the next year.

“I don’t have the feeling anyone is concerned about that here. But for me, a year is a long time. A contract in this business never saves you from difficult developments. I totally appreciate the trust and that I am in this responsible role for Norwich City.

“All my plans and strategy are to help this club in the short term, the mid term and the long term. All my actions and thoughts are about this.

“I totally feel the support of the most important people inside the club, we speak each and every day, so for me the contract is not so important. I felt the same when I was a player.

“There will be 100% the right time to speak about these things but I got the feeling we don’t have any pressure in this area.”

Norwich face Luton Town and Charlton Athletic in their remaining pre-season fixtures, before starting the Sky Bet Championship season with a trip to Birmingham City on August 4th.
