Leeds’ £2.5 million striker Tyler Roberts finally makes debut

Leeds United may not have spent any money in this transfer window but they have had a debut for Tyler Roberts, a player who cost the club £2.5 million back in January. The young forward arrived with a niggle and ended up cracking his shin and missed the rest of the season through it.

Roberts arrived onto the scene just after the hour mark and his involvement was immediate. The players got him on the ball as soon as he came on and that helped, no doubt about it. He played a couple of quick one-two’s down the right and looked sharp, certainly not slowly trying to get into the game. Minutes later he could have received a cut-back but didn’t and made sure everyone knew he wasn’t happy, a good way to be on a debut, no fear.

He actually came on to play down the right, Stuart Dallas went to left-back, Alioski to left-wing and Laurens De Bock was taken off after an impressive hour. As Leeds pushed the play seemed to go down the middle, Samu Saiz, Adam Forshaw and Kemar Roofe at the heart of moves but we just lacked the cutting edge needed to open up Southend again, a concern for Marcelo Bielsa.

Roberts is a player that Leeds fans are looking forward to seeing. At his age we rarely spend big money and £2.5 million was big money, especially in January for Leeds. He has worked extremely hard to get back to fitness and the fans will appreciate it will take him a while to get back into the swing of things, but he did lift the players around him on arrival today which was very encouraging.
