Sunderland looking to add Northern Ireland international Jones to Black Cats

Sunderland are a team in transition as they face up to life in League One, English football’s third-tier competition. However, they are looking to add players to the squad according to the Daily Mail.

As well as the reported swoop for out-of-favour Villa striker Ross McCormack, the Black Cats are also pondering over making a similar swoop for Northern Ireland international Jordan Jones.

23-year-old Jones, a two-cap Northern Ireland international currently plays in the SPL with Kilmarnock, having moved north of the border from Middlesbrough in July 2016. It was at Boro where Jones was given his grounding in football, appearing mainly in the Under-23s where he featured 60 times – scoring five goals and carving out six assists.

However, only one first team appearance came during his time at The Riverside, and a move to Scotland and Kilmarnock has seen him begin to develop as a footballer. During his two seasons at Killie, Jones has featured 86 times, scoring seven goals and providing 18 assists.

They say that a player is really only as good as his last season, and Jones had something of an eye-catching season last time out. Across 30 SPL games Jones scored four goals and provided a further five assists – these assists part of the 10 he chipped in with across all competitions.

The Daily Mail say that the Black Cats “are lining up a bid” for Jones as they look to add firepower and potential to the side in an attempt to bounce back to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking.
