Bolton Wanderers are a club who need to use all of their power to bring in the most basic of targets these days. Money isn’t available in big amounts, not even small amounts really but Phil Parkinson is doing his best with loans and free transfers. Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling will not be joining after turning down a move.
Defender Sterling has joined Coventry City on loan despite, in his own words being on the “verge” of joining Wanderers and Phil Parkinson. Sterling is an England youth player and is very highly rated at Chelsea but first-team football is now key to his development.
Sterling has revealed that Coventry had the upper hand effectively because he knew Adrian Viveash, the former Chelsea academy coach who he knows well and is now on the books at Coventry City. The 18-year-old has featured in the Chelsea first-team briefly and is expected to make the grade in the Premier League, whether he will ever get a chance at the London club remains to be seen.
It’s a bitter blow for Bolton Wanderers and Phil Parkinson who are struggling to get deals over the line. Recent signing Yanic Wildschut was a very shrewd move by the club and Stephen Ireland may well be the key needed to progress in this division. Other deals are on the cards but the main ones, most notably Charlie Wyke from Bradford City doesn’t seem to be progressing.
Bolton have earmarked Wyke to be the new striker, the replacement for Gary Madine who headed to Cardiff City in January but they are competing with Sunderland, and more realistically their own budgets and money constraints.
