Marriott, Jack Marriott – recently relegated Premier League side shows ‘interest’

Jack Marriott – recently relegated Premier League side shows ‘interest’

A striker’s currency are the goals that he scores – plain and simple really. The more he scores then the higher his value rises – again plain and simple.

Yet, in football, nothing is ever really just plain and simple – well not entirely. There are often levels of confusion or blankets of mystery placed over what essentially are very simple things such as the transfer of player A from club Y to club Z.

Take Peterborough United’s striker Jack Marriott, and many would do just that according to the ‘paper interest’ shown in the Beverley-born 23-year-old frontman. He cost Posh around £450,000 last year when moving from Luton to the ABAX Stadium.

What he’s accomplished from that point in, over the course of his virgin season at London Road, has added more that one zero to his value that’s for sure. 27 League One goals and six more across cup competitions have seen much interest in him, and with ‘interest’ comes links to interested parties.

That’s something that Peterborough owner and chairman MacAnthony picks up on in the video (below) from ThePoshTV – Peterborough’s in-house media team.

At around the 07:20 mark, MacAnthony says the following: “there are other clubs who desperately want him but they are trying to shift players on a one-in, one-out policy. And then there’s a knock-on effect. There’s a recently relegated club from the Premier League who their manager was on to Jack’s agent yesterday and he is his number one target. But until one goes, and one comes in, that’s the way it is.”

Obviously the ambiguity is there in what MacAnthony says, citing interest from “a recently relegated club from the Premier League” but at least that narrows it down to one of just three. The simplest of questions remains though – who out of West Brom, Stoke City or Swansea City is the club showing interest?
