Opinion: Three alternative strikers to Waghorn who Sheffield United should sign

Sheffield United have been pursuing a move for Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn over recent days. Here are three other strikers they should target if they can’t sign him-

Scott Hogan, Aston Villa- He has been linked with the Blades throughout this transfer window and would be perfect. His move to Villa has not worked out for one reason or another but Sheffield United would be the perfect club for him. Instead of being a substitute at Villa, he would be the focal point of the Blades’ attack and one of the first names on the team sheet there. Hogan would be able to recapture the goal scoring form he had at Brentford.

Mohamed Eisa, Cheltenham Town- The 23-year-old would be the cheapest option the Blades could opt for. Nevertheless, Eisa would be an unknown quantity at Championship and could hit the ground running. He joined Cheltenham Town last summer from non-league side Greenwich Borough and scored 25 goals in his debut season in the Football League. There is plenty of interest in him from League One/Championship sides now and Sheffield United should swoop in for him.

Charlie Wyke, Bradford City- Bolton Wanderers are keen to sign him this summer but he is another Sheffield United should look at as well, if they can’t get a deal over the line for Waghorn. Wyke has proven himself in both League Two and League One and looks ready for the step up to the Championship. He would be a shrewd signing for Chris Wilder’s side as he would offer them another dimension going forward and a plan B in games.
