Leeds’ Ronaldo Vieira – Not a teenager, but captain

As Leeds prepare to face York City tonight the debate rages on about why the club aren’t signing any new faces and how this eleven shape up tonight. The latter is probably the more difficult question, no centre-backs in the side and just two left-sided defenders overall. One thing that isn’t up for debate, Ronaldo Vieira captains the side on his 20th birthday.

If you were a regular reader of my stuff on Peacock and Smiley or are now as I follow Leeds and their day to day ongoings you’ll know I have so much belief in Ronaldo Vieira. He is a player I have enjoyed watching grow since he arrived on the scene at Preston North End in Steve Evans’ final game as Leeds United head coach.

Vieira turned 20 today, so the “teenager” song is now to be changed, I’ll let other work on that though as I take in the fact that Vieira has been named of an odd-looking Leeds United side. The side contains two left-backs, six central midfielders, two wingers and a striker so working that out isn’t exactly straight forward, although a back three may well be on the cards in Bielsa’s second game.

Vieira is being linked with and £8 million move to Cardiff City but quite simply that can’t happen. Leeds need to keep the younger players and for the second year on the bounce Vieira has helped the England sides sent to Toulon win the tournament, first for the under 20’s and the this year the under 21’s.

Vieira is a huge favourite of the Leeds United fan-base and the captaincy for tonight will go down well, on his birthday as well. He may not have featured at Forest Green on Tuesday but you would hope, with his ability and talent that he is a big part of the Marcelo Bielsa plans.
