Leicester City have had their odds to sign Stoke City star Jack Butland slashed all the way down to 5/1 with online bookmaker Sky Bet. Chelsea remain the favourites at 3/1.
Leicester City’s current number one. Kasper Schmeichel, had an outstanding World Cup with Denmark. Despite crashing out at the round of 16 stage against Croatia, he still saved three penalties against them.
Why Leicester City would want Butland isn’t very clear. They have a number one who is arguably better than Butland. Although, Schmeichel is 31 years of age whereas Butland is only 25 year of age. The Foxes may be planning ahead for Schmeichel’s eventual retirement. With jack Butland stuck in the Championship at Stoke City, they might be able to get him for a fraction of his actual worth too.
Despite ultimately being relegated with Stoke City, Jack Butland still managed to make a respectable six clean sheets in 35 games. He also managed to book his place on the plane to Russia having been one of Stoke City’s only real stand out players in a season worth forgetting for The Potters.
Stoke City may well be a Championship club now but Jack Butland is certainly not a Championship player. Whoever gets their hands on this excellent English talent will have made a real shrewd piece of business. Keep your eyes on this one, it’s going to be a very interesting one.
