Championship club poised to join Sunderland & Portsmouth in striker race

A Championship club are set to join the race for Cheltenham Town striker Mohamed Eisa, according to Gloucestershire Live.

League One trio Sunderland, Peterborough United and Portsmouth have all had bids turned down for the highly-rated 23-year-old. Pompey remain the favourites to sign him but will now have to face competition from an unnamed Championship side. Eisa’s future is expected to be decided in the next 24-48 hours.

Eisa joined Cheltenham Town last summer from non-league side Greenwich Borough and has burst onto the scene in the Football League. He managed 25 goals in his debut season and Cheltenham are now wanting to get a transfer fee in excess of £1.5 million for him.

Sunderland have shown a keen interest in bringing Eisa to the Stadium of Light and have had a bid rejected for him. Their new manager, Jack Ross, wants to bolster his attacking options for their upcoming League One campaign. The Black Cats have also made a move for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke.

Peterborough United have also had a move turned down by Cheltenham for Eisa. The Posh have been one of the busiest clubs in the third tier in the transfer window and are not wanting to stop yet. They have secured one of the signings of the summer in League One in Jason Cummings.

Portsmouth or a Championship club are looking the most likely destination for Mohamed Eisa, who has a big future in the Football League ahead of him. If he was to move up to the second tier, it would be some story for him and it would be interesting to see how he got on.
