Premier League side put off by West Brom’s valuation of defender

Premier League side Burnley are said to have turned their attentions elsewhere after learning that Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion want £20 million for their defender Craig Wilson.

The Express and Star have reported that Burnley are no longer interested in signing Dawson, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthorns this summer.

Craig Dawson was an ever present in the West Brom side that suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, but his performances were good enough to attract the attention of a number of top flight clubs, such as West Ham United and Burnley.

The 28-year-old versatile defender had been Sean Dyche’s number one target this summer, but it seems they will now turn their attentions elsewhere.

Despite the fact that Burnley have now dropped out of the race to sign Dawson, he is still expected to leave the club this summer. The Rochdale born defender handed in a transfer request back in June, and is yet to play for the Baggies in a pre-season game.

In fact, he was fined after refusing to attend the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, adding to speculation that he will leave the club.

Dawson has been on the books at West Bromwich Albion since joining the club back in 2010, signing for an undisclosed fee from boyhood club Rochdale.

He has gone on to play over 150 times for West Brom, as well as enjoying a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.

Craig Dawson also played for the Great Britain side during the 2012 Olympics.
