Alfie Mawson, Burnley and Swansea City in talks over defender

Burnley and Swansea City in talks over defender

Premier League club Burnley are in talks with Championship Swansea City over the possible signing of central defender Alfie Mawson. This is according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Burnley already have four central defenders at the club but are looking to expand their squad to give themselves as many options at possible ahead of a very demanding season.

Alfie Mawson stood out in an awful Swansea City squad during their relegation season, last campaign. The 24-year-old is without a doubt much better than Championship standard and would get into most Premier League sides.

Swansea City signed Mawson from League One side Barnsley. His impressive 50 match spell at the club earned him the big move up to the Premier League. During the half century of games he scored nine goals and only received three yellow cards. He didn’t get sent off even once.

During his time on the Welsh South coast he’s played 71 times in all competitions. He’s scored seven goals for the club, picked up one assist and only picked up four yellow cards which is remarkable for a defender.

In his entire 199 match career he’s never been sent off and as only ever picked up 14 yellow cards. This is absolutely incredible for a central defender.

Burnley aren’t the only Premier League club expressing serious interest in Alfie Mawson. West Ham United have been very interested in signing the promising youngster but have yet to make any progress.

Despite entering talks with Swansea City, a fee hasn’t been agreed. It’s also been said that any possibility of deal with Burnley is slim but there is still a chance.
