Hay dismisses Leeds bid for Dutch winger – but interest is clear

Phil Hay, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer, says that Leeds United probably have not submitted a bid for Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon. However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side do retain an interest in the Dutchman and could still make their move.

Speaking following a pre-season friendly last night, Brentford head coach Dean Smith revealed that Jozefzoon was not involved due to the fact a bid had been accepted from an ‘unnamed club’. This led to rumours of it being Leeds. Whilst this offer is not understood to be from them, they may still sanction an offer in the coming days.

The 27-year-old has impressed during his time at Griffin Park. He completed the switch to the club in 2017 from Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven. Since then, he has made 58 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship, netting eight goals in that time frame. He appeared in both matches versus Leeds last season, with Brentford winning the home encounter in November 2017 3-1 and losing 1-0 at Elland Road in February.

Hay states that it is of his understanding Leeds have not made a bid for the ex-Ajax youngster. However, he conceded that the club do ‘like’ Jozefzoon and ‘could get involved’. Therefore, it very much looks a case of watch this space regarding any potential transfer movement, which is expected during the week. Bielsa is very much looking to beef up his squad as the new season gets under way in only a couple of weeks. A striker, full back and a winger are his priorities, and Jozefzoon certainly would fill that final void.
