Grealish, Aston Villa set to lose Grealish for half of asking price before weekend

Aston Villa set to lose Grealish for half of asking price before weekend

The Mirror reports that Aston Villa are now prepared to sell star player Jack Grealish to Tottenham Hotspur for around £20million. The Sky Bet Championship side were holding out for double that amount. Spurs want to get the deal done before they leave for their tour of the US this weekend.

The 22-year-old is certainly the star talent within Steve Bruce’s squad. However, failure to win promotion into the top flight last season meant that funds simply have to be raised. Around £40million needs to be produced through player sales to comply with Financial Fair Play rulings. Grealish has been in pre-season training with his Villa team mates.

Whilst Grealish himself is a boyhood Villa supporter and would not necessarily find it easy to leave, he is now starting to warm to that likely probability. Moving into the Premier League gives him the chance to battle for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England team.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t pursued the signing before now as they wanted to decrease the asking price set by Villa. He looks to have finally got what he wants.

Spurs, who will appear in the UEFA Champions League next season, leave for the United States on Sunday as they appear in the International Champions Cup. Mauricio Pochettino’s men will face Roma, Barcelona and AC Milan, and they are keen to get Grealish on board before then.

It is fair to say that the youngster will earn a lot more than the £20,000-a-week that he currently gets at Villa Park!
