Martin, Farke reveals Norwich ‘club legend’ is likely to leave

Farke reveals Norwich ‘club legend’ is likely to leave

In discussion with the Pink Un, Norwich City head coach Daniel Farke has revealed that Russell Martin is again training with the Under-23 side and that he is quite likely to leave the club on loan before the transfer deadline closes.

Martin ended last season out on loan in the Ladbrokes Premiership with Rangers. However, Steven Gerrard has since been appointed to that job, meaning a return is not necessarily expected. Therefore, Martin faces an uncertain wait to see where he’ll be playing his football next season. It is not believed to be with Norwich.

Martin is currently away with the U23’s in Germany for a pre-season training camp, and appeared in their emphatic victory over the Borussia Dortmund side of the same age group. The Scottish international has made 309 appearances for the club since joining in 2009, but he is very much out of favour with Farke. The German confirmed he will probably be moving on again,

“When you have a club legend with such a great career either there is a possibility to back him against the odds and support him in each and every situation, or, the second way is to do without him.

“We have this decision to send him on loan and to do without him. I think it’s the best decision to do it like this because Russell is not a player who can sometimes be in the team and sometimes not.”

He last appeared in a Norwich shirt in the heavy 4-0 defeat to Millwall last August.
