West Brom considering swap deal with Middlesbrough

West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga, and will use Scottish winger Matt Phillips as a bargaining tool in the deal, according to a report by Team Talk.

Middlesbrough have been interested in Matt Phillips for a number of weeks now, and they may now be a step closer to getting their man as West Brom look for a swap deal with Britt Assombalonga.

The Baggies are looking to bring in a new striker as Venezuelan international Salomon Rondon edges closer to a move away from the club.

The reports have suggested that Rondon has agreed a deal with Newcastle United ahead of a move to the Premier League club. Jay Rodriguez is also expected to leave the club, with his former club Burnley favourites to secure his signature.

Assombalonga is considered surplus to requirements at Middlesbrough after a reported fall out with manager Tony Pulis, and the North East club are also keen on offering the striker as part of a swap deal for Phillips.

Britt Assombalonga only joined Middlesbrough last summer, signing for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million.

The former Watford striker left Nottingham Forest, a club that have also shown an interest in signing him this summer.

The signing of Assombalonga would be a real statement of intent for West Brom, and would give them an excellent chance of achieving promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

West Brom were relegated from the Premier League after a poor 2017/18 season.
