Scottish Premier League giants to make move for Millwall star this week

Rangers will make a third bid for Millwall defender Jake Cooper this week, according to talkSPORT.

The Scottish Premier League giants are desperate to land the 23-year-old centre-back as their manager, Steven Gerrard, continues to look to bolster his squad.

Rangers have so far signed Allan McGregor from Hull City, Connor Goldson and Jamie Murphy from Brighton and Hove Albion, Jon Flanagan and Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool and Croatian defender Nikola Katic. They are keen to further strengthen their backline as they look to challenge rivals’ Celtic for the title next season.

Jake Cooper has been one of their main transfer targets in this transfer window and they have already seen two bids for him knocked back.

The defender started his career at Reading, of whom he joined at the age of 14 in 2009. He made his debut for the Royals in August 2014 in a Championship fixture against Ipswich Town. Cooper then went onto play 56 games for Reading and scored 4 goals for them in two-and-a-half seasons in the first-team.

He was then loaned out to Millwall for the second-half of the 2016/17 season and played 18 games to help them gain promotion from League One under Neil Harris. The Lions then swooped to sign him on a permanent deal last summer on a three-year-deal.

Cooper impressed for Harris’ side in the last campaign and helped them get into contention for a Play-Off place in the Championship. However, they will now face a battle to hold onto him this summer with Rangers keen on signing him.
