Scunthorpe United’s Josh Morris – Overrated or out of form?

Scunthorpe United’s Josh Morris has been the talk of League One in recent years due to a sensational season he had back in the 2016/17 campaign. On the contrary, he had an awful season last time out. Is he just in a sticky patch or is he overrated?

Lets start with his sensational season. Back in the 2016/17 campaign he made 44 League One appearances for Scunthorpe United. During that time he scored a mammoth 19 goals and picked up and amazing 16 assists. Playing all 44 games in left midfield makes this all the more impressive.

He might have had this one amazing season but this is the one and only time he’s got anywhere near those kind of stats. Was it all a bit of a fluke?

Apart from that season, he’s never reached double figure for assists and only made double figures for goals once. He’s consistently hits single figure for goals and assists which is why there are so many questions being raised over him. Following his incredible 2016/17 season he didn’t ever kick on into the next season which is what players need to do if they are to be classed as ‘top quality’.

It’ll be interesting to see whether he does finally kick on next season. If he does, it’s fair to call last season a bad spell of form and he can be classed as a top quality League One player. If he doesn’t and he has another bang average campaign, then there’s going to be serious doubts over how good Josh Morris really is. Keep an eye on this man, this season could make or break him.
