Leeds United to be tested – huge bid readied for star player

Despite getting his name wrong TWICE, James Nursey, writing for the Daily Mirror, says that Cardiff City are going to test Leeds United’s resolve over young starlet Ronaldo Vieira.

First it was the Sun’s Alan Nixon who said that Leeds United faced interest in Vieira from Cardiff City, now the Mirror’s Nursey adds to the rising cacophony of doubt that Whites fans will likely be facing.

In their Transfer News Live rolling news section (21:01), Nursey says that Cardiff City are “planning another raid on the Championship for Leeds’ starlet Rolando [sic] Vieira.”

19-year-old England Under-21 international Vieira has had a rise to heady heights over the last few seasons since making an end-of-season cameo début for Leeds United under Steve Evans in a 1-1 draw away against Preston North End.

The youngster has gone on to make 63 Sky Bet Championship appearances for United, scoring one goal and providing three assists along the way. But to know Ronaldo Vieira is to know that it is more than just the headline figures that make him the player that he is.

For a youngster he’s got an assured sense of control in the midst of what has often been something of a melting pot of a midfield at Elland Road since he made his breakthrough into the side. He’s now a seasoned ‘veteran’, even at such a tender age, and his match-by-match performances are beginning to demonstrate that.

Vieira only inked a new deal at Elland Road last summer, his signature drying on what was a four-year deal at the West Yorkshire club. However former Whites manager Neil Warnock is said to be casting his beady eyes back to his old club and focusing on Vieira who the Mirror say “is considered one of the best starlets outside the Premier League.”

The write-up goes on to say that the Bluebirds are “ready to test Leeds’ resolve with a potential opening £7million bid” for the exciting youngster who has not only become a regular at Elland Road but also for England – progressing into Aidy Boothroyd’s highly successful Under-21 set-up.

Ronaldo Vieira is viewed by many Leeds United fans as akin to one of the crown jewels of the Elland Road set-up, a rated youngster who must be kept and a team built around. To wake up to knowledge that there’s a former foe, and one managed by former Whites boss Neil Warnock, interested in snapping him up is something that will not go down well on social media.

An opening bid of £7 million would, as many Leeds United fans will gladly tell you, not likely be enough to get the talented youngster to up sticks from West Yorkshire to South Wales. They will also be more than quick to tell you that this is likely to be nothing more than rumour piggybacking with one source (The Mirror) jumping onto the back of another source (The Sun).

Whatever the true nature of this rumour, all will play out in due course and then, and only then, will Leeds United fans have the right answer.
