Derby County put previous drops in form behind them last season in reaching the play-off places – finishing in 6th place.
However, despite taking a first-leg, 1-0 lead over Fulham it was the Londoners who progressed to eventual Premier League promotion via a 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage.
The current buzz going around amongst Derby County fans is the ‘news’ that new boss Frank Lampard is looking to cash in his favours at old club Chelsea and bring highly rated attacking midfielder Mason Mount to Pride Park.
The 19-year-old England Under-19 starlet is seen as one of the Blues wonderkids and has already spent time out on loan last season at Chelsea’s associate club Vittesse Arnhem.
During his time in Holland, Mount featured 40 times for Vitesse, 29 of these coming in the Eredivisie – Dutch football’s top-tier competition. Overall, the youngster scored 13 goals (eight in the Eredivisie/five in the Europa League play-offs) and provided 10 assists (nine of these in the Eredivisie).
He’s a youngster who definitely knows where the goal is and this is also shown in his seven goals in 16 England Under-19 games. It is this level of promise and potential that has obviously been paramount in the mind of Frank Lampard when looking to address any weaknesses that he thinks Derby might have ahead of the coming season.
The loan deal for the £3.6 million-rated teen is expected to be announced some time soon, with some sources pointing at tomorrow as the day in question. It is an appointment that it is safe to say that Derby County fans are looking forward to. Here’s some of their reactions to news that the Chelsea starlet is incoming.

Whilst this is admittedly only a small sample of Derby County fans, there is an overwhelming sense of positivity that Mason Mount is going to be an absolute boom of a loan signing. Yes, there are doubters and dissenters in the ranks, but it is mainly a sense of “Yes!” rather than “No.” amongst a group of increasingly excited Rams fans.
