He managed 23 goals in his debut season in the Football League.

George Evans, Reading- The Championship central midfielder is close to joining the Black Cats, according to the Sunderland Echo. The Manchester City man is set to drop down a division and help to get Sunderland back into the second tier. Evans started his career at the Etihad Stadium but was snapped up by Reading in 2016 after impressing during loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Walsall and Scunthorpe United.

Ivan Toney, Newcastle United- Sunderland have been linked with a move for their bitter rivals’ young striker, as per a report by the Shields Gazette. The 22-year-old has bags of experience in League One having had loan stints at Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Wigan Athletic and Scunthorpe United in the past.
