New Leeds United signing makes first comments following transfer

New Leeds United signing Jamal Blackman has told the club website that he is delighted to sign with the new club.

One of Leeds’ main aims this summer was to sign a new goalkeeper due to the departure of Felix Wiedwald. They had approached several shot stoppers over the last few weeks but everyone involved with the side will be delighted that they have managed to get Blackman on a loan deal that will last until the end of the season.

While Blackman has never made a senior appearance for Chelsea, he has got a lot of experience from various loan spells he has been on. He has played for the likes of Swedish side Ostersunds FK, Wycombe Wanderers and most recently Sheffield United where he impressed enough for the Blades to try and get him back on loan. But they failed and instead their Yorkshire rivals Leeds were able to get the signature.

He said after signing: “I’m really happy to sign, I’m really looking forward to it, it is going to be a good season and hopefully there are big things to come from this club,”

“Speaking with the manager and staff and coming up from Chelsea, everyone felt it was a good step for me in the right direction and I want to show what I can do on the big stages.”

“I was fortunate to play in the Championship with Sheffield United last season and play in such big games, they were great there and I learnt so much.”

“Leeds has a really big fan base and I’m looking forward to playing here and hopefully the fans will get behind us and push us forwards.”

“I’ve heard a lot of things about Marcelo Bielsa, a lot of people talk very highly about him and I’m sure I will learn a lot, which will help me in my career.”

“I want to bring all of my attributes here, I want to play as many games as possible and push and get the team as high as possible.”
