Could Leeds United be set to sign their new Alan Smith?

Leeds United fans have seemingly been unhappy with the clubs transfer window thus far and the West-Yorkshire club have only brought in Lewis Baker during the transfer window thus far, despite the fact that they are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on loan.

Leeds United fans have been boosted by the fact that the club have been linked with a number of players recently, including the likes of Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Hugill, but one player who the club have been heavily linked with in the past few days is Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison.

Maddison has been fantastic for Peterborough United over the past few seasons and can play in a number of positions, either as an attacking midfielder, a winger or a left-back. Namely, though, Maddison is an attacker and could fill a void in Leeds United’s side that Alan Smith filled back in the Premier League, deputizing as a winger or a secondary striker to whoever the West-Yorkshire club decide to sign during this transfer window.

Smith scored 38 goals in 172 games for Leeds United and whilst Maddison scores similar numbers of goals from midfield much like Smith, he’s also highly influential in terms of the assists that he brings to a team.

Maddison would be an excellent signing for Leeds United and if the Whites were also to make a move for Jack Marriott of Peterborough United, they’d have a fantastic attacking duo between them.

Maddison could prove to be an acquisition that would show his value in a similar manner to Smith, through goals but also through versatility in the fact he can play out on the wing, or through the middle if need be.

Leeds United should aim to sign the forward, and if they do, Whites fans could have a very exciting talent on their hands.
