Derby County, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest told Ipswich Town striker will cost a lot of money

Ipswich Town head coach Paul Hurst has told Derbyshire Live and interested teams Derby County, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest that Martyn Waghorn is going to cost them a lot of money.

Waghorn only signed for Ipswich last summer after two-year stint with Rangers and he made sure to remind the Sky Bet Championship why he has been highly rated in the past. This season, he scored 16 goals in 47 appearances and was a big reason Ipswich finished in mid-table this season rather than just about staying away from the relegation zone than usual.

But this has attracted plenty of attention. Derby, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest have all been impressed with his performances over the last year and are interested in signing him. This is a concern for Ipswich as they don’t want to lose one of their top players, especially when they could also lose Bartosz Bialkowski this summer. But Hurst has insisted that anyone wanting to sign him will have to spend a lot of money to sign him.

When asked if a bid had been made for Waghorn, Hurst said: “No, but there’s interest there.”

“It’s only natural when you have a player who had the season he did and with those stats alone, irrespective of how he plays.”

“Naturally there would be (interest) but he is another one (along with Bartosz Bialkowski) I want at the football club.”

“I’m not going to say right now that ‘he’s not going anywhere’ but it will take a helluva lot of money and I don’t know if anyone is going to be willing to do that.”
