Carlisle United hand trial to experienced Greek defender

Carlisle United have handed a trial to 29-year-old Greek defender Dimitris Kotsonis. The defender played the full 90 minutes in the 0-2 win over Penrith yesterday and John Sheridan is set to give him more time to impress.

John Sheridan is looking at three trialists currently. Talented winger Lewis Walters has joined, the Leeds United academy graduate left the West Yorkshire club to join Nottingham Forest after he was released but couldn’t make the first-team again. He joins Charlie Scott, the defensive midfielder who left Manchester United this summer after a loan spell with Hamilton Accies last season.

Sheridan is close to new signings, that’s coming from the man himself so this sort of deal could be a huge bonus. According to the News and Star in the above article the player was recommended to Sheridan by the player’s agent. Kotsonis is a much travelled player and has vast experience the Greek leagues, a far cry from League Two in England but that’s not to say he won’t adapt.

Hi most recent club was Greek division two side Trikala , before that he played around 37 league games for Lamia and has had five other clubs during his career. Paniliakos was where he started his career and played nearly 70 games for the side before moving on.

Carlisle are in a position where free transfers and loans are key to the success in this summers transfers market and need new faces in soon, the squad is light and the season is less than three weeks away.
