Rangers join the race for much-coveted League One star

Rangers have joined the race for much-coveted Blackpool defender Curtis Tilt, who will cost around £1 million, according to Alan Nixon of The Sun.

The 26-year-old centre-half is viewed by Steven Gerrard as a decent alternative to Jake Cooper, who Rangers have seen bids in excess of £3 million for rejected. However, Blackpool are keen to keep hold of their defensive star and will charge a seven-figure sum for his services.

Ipswich Town have already seen a bid of £550,000 for the 26-year-old defender rejected, while fellow Championship clubs Reading and Queens Park Rangers remain keen on the centre-back, but the draw of playing at Ibrox for one of Scotland’s biggest clubs could be the factor that turns Tilt’s head.

An ever-present at the back for Blackpool last season, Tilt is another player to have risen through the non-league ranks, turning out for AFC Telford and Wrexham before seamlessly making the transition to League One level.

There the Walsall-born defender would establish himself as one of the division’s most exciting defensive prospects, playing all but two of Blackpool’s league fixtures, only missing out on those even through suspension.

It’s likely that Tilt would be able to once again make the step up from League One to the Scottish Premier League, but first Rangers would have to meet the £1 million asking price set by Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer.

Tilt would become Rangers’ tenth signing of the season should he make the switch, following the likes of Ovie Ejaria, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic in making the move to Ibrox.
