Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott will fly to Portugal for the club’s pre season tour, chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed.
The Peterborough United striker has been highly sought after since his arrival at London Road last summer. Leeds United and Nottingham Forest were interested in acquiring the services of Jack Marriott in the January transfer window, and have returned again this summer. While Leeds have cooled their interest in the 33-goal striker, Forest remain keen on him and Derby County and Bristol City have also joined the race for Marriott.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter last night that Marriott would be boarding the plane to Portugal as they set off to test themselves against Portuguese opposition. The club will play first division side CS Maritimo and Louletano of the third division.
Yes 3 from one club alone in last 8 days as he is their managers number 1 target. He’s on plane to Portugal 🇵🇹 👍🏻with us. Cheers. https://t.co/DCX5HH98vn

This tweet from MacAnthony sparked speculation amongst Leeds, Derby and Bristol City fans, with even a Millwall fan jokingly asking if the Lions were interested in Marriott.
On his way to Portugal. Millwall are in Portugal. Coincidence? You'll take 400k, 6 packets of fruit pastilles and as much bovril as you can drink, yeah?

Despite this, he also confirmed that playmaker Marcus Maddison would be staying in England as he nears the exit London Road. Maddison has had his release fee paid and is now discussing personal terms with an unnamed Championship club.

However, MacAnthony admitted that a deal could still be done in the near future, regardless of Marriott travelling with the squad to Portugal.
Yes of course it could. https://t.co/2VsS1L5Fi3

The club are yet to receive an acceptable bid for Marriott, but as the transfer window gets closer to it’s climax, bids closer to Boro’s valuation of Marriott are bound to start flooding in.
