Match Report: Accrington Stanley 3-0 Huddersfield Town

This afternoon, League One Accrington Stanley stunned Premier League Huddersfield Town 3-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Wham Stadium.

Huddersfield Town started the game the stronger of the two sides creating several half chances early on in proceedings. Shots from Laurent Depoitre and Alex Pritchard being the best of the chances.

Huddersfield rued those miss opportunities a short time later as striker Billy Kee played through Hayden Jackson who slotted home past the helpless Ben Hamer.

Unfortunately, there were injuries for Sean Scannell, Jon Stankovic and Chris Schindler all in the first half. Chris Schindler had to be substituted off as a consequence of the injury he sustained. Fan favourite Michael Hefele being his replacement.

Just before half time it was 2-0. Florent Hadergjonaj dropped a back pass horribly short of the goalkeeper, Ben Hamer. Stanley’s Hayden Jackson latched onto the loose ball and scored his and Accrington’s second goal of the match. The first half ended Accrington Stanley 2-0 Huddersfield Town.

The second half kicked off and Accrington started where they left off. The Lancashire club had more and more chances and looked very organised. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t convert any of their second half chances.

Huddersfield improved as the game went on and had several more chances. A mixture of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and excellent defending kept the Terriers at bay.

Accrington Stanley rounded off their thoroughly deserved victory with a free kick. Sean McConville placed the ball perfectly into an unguarded bottom left corner and that was that, it ended Accrington Stanley 3-0 Huddersfield Town.
